Be Consistent. Be Persistent.

We are what we repeatedly do, not what we do occasionally or when the mood strikes and the situation is ideal.
For better or worse, we define ourselves by that which we actively demonstrate our commitment. We don’t claim to be the type who “eats clean” if we grab the first piece of chocolate cake somebody slides toward us. If we get only eight hours of sleep when we can’t find something interesting on Netflix, we don’t claim to be dedicated to getting adequate rest.
But when we start to consistently act in accordance to the story we want to tell about ourselves, there are few audacious goals we can’t achieve.

If we want to lose 20 pounds, we don’t eat sugar today. If we want to be a more present parent, we put the phone away at 5pm tonight. If we want to make Regionals, we get to the gym this afternoon.
And then we do it again tomorrow, and the next day, and all the days that follow…no matter what. No matter that it’s your birthday and your workmates bought you a cake. No matter that your boss keeps texting you. No matter that you’re sore or that you worked late the night before.

When you start to say that I’m the type of person who _________, no matter what, you’ve given yourself a kind of superpower most never uncover.

So who do you want to be and what do you need to do today in order to become that person? Even better, what can you do every single day for the next thirty days – no matter what – that will move you closer?

Get yourself a calendar, stick it on the wall or your refrigerator, and write your goal at the top. Then, every day you accomplish your goal, write a big, red X on the date. Your goal is to not break the chain of X’s.
