HERE'S WHAT'S HAPPENING IN OUR COMMUNITY!

Did We Just Become Best Friends?

Every week we chat with people who are looking to meet new people in the area and get more involved in the community. Aside from weight loss or fitness goals, “meeting new people and building relationships” is at the top of the list of what potential new members are looking for. And it’s probably at or near the top of your list, too.

We always talk about what a great community we have at CrossFit Helix, but that can be hard for an outsider to really grasp what that means. While the majority of what we do involves working out with each other, we create many other opportunities for you all to build deeper, more meaningful relationships with each other. Isn’t that what life is really all about?

“Sometimes all we need is to be surrounded by a group of others trying to do better.”

“Community” is the bond that holds us all together. It’s what keeps us accountable to keep coming back. “Community” is what turns the workout into a “have to” into a “I get to!” It’s what inspires us to be the best versions of ourselves. It’s what makes us feel like we “belong.”

How to Get Involved

Every Saturday at 8:30am, we have a team/partner workout. This is a great way to get to know people and bond together. If you haven’t been to a Saturday morning workout yet, do that soon and you’ll feel a bit closer with the athletes within our gym when you leave. If you are a regular Saturday morning athlete, here’s a challenge for you: ask someone to be your partner or on your team that you haven’t gotten to know very well yet. Befriend someone new and make them feel special!

Every year, we host an annual in-house competition called the Intramural Open. This is part of the Open, which is a worldwide CrossFit competition spanning a total of 5 weeks (1 workout per week) that affiliates from all around the world participate in. While none of us are competing in this to make it to the Games, it’s an incredible way to connect with our community. This year, it kicks off on October 10th and we do one workout per week on Fridays, what we call “Friday Night Lights.” It’s like a party every Friday night, but the kind where you leave more fit than when you came in. Sure, the workouts are challenging, but the hard is what makes is great, and alongside the entire Helix community makes it even greater. Definitely sign up yet if you haven’t yet. It’s $20 for the entire 5-weeks and we’ll have drinks and snacks every Friday. Still not sure? Check out our Facebook album of over 900 photos from our last Open and see the kinds of memories we created.

On the first Friday of every month, we have “Free Bring a Friend Friday!” The next one is October 4th. This is an opportunity for current CrossFit Helix athletes to bring in their friends or family to try out any class that day, for FREE! This is a great way to bring in those you’re close to that have been wanting to try CrossFit with a workout suited for all fitness levels.

Throughout the year, we host an annual “Murph” workout on Memorial Day to honor all those who have died while serving for our country. We plan other fun events around Halloween, host a gym wide Christmas party every year and other numerous fun things that come up, such as paddle boarding, hiking and snowshoeing together.

But if you want to get connected and more involved now, we have two upcoming opportunities for you to do so. We’re hiking the Manitou Springs Incline this Sunday, September 29th and one of our Helix couples, Tina & Dustin Beauvais, are hosting a Cornhole Tournament & Chili Cook-Off at their house on Sunday, October 13th at 1:00pm. All the information can be found on our CrossFit Helix Athletes Facebook group, or email us if you’d like more info.

But even with all the opportunities we offer our athletes to get connected with each other, you have to make an effort! Show up to these events, even if, and especially if, you’re new to Helix. Strike up a conversation with someone new. Try out different class times to meet different people. Find your new best friend!

In order to make friends, you need to be a friend.

If you have an idea for an event or outing, let us know! We’re always happy to coordinate new events.

If you’re looking for a way to get connected with a community of people who are positive and uplifting and you also want to get fit along the way, come check us out! We can get to know you during a free 15-minute No-Sweat Intro (no working out – just us learning about you and your goals) and see if CrossFit Helix is a community you’d like to be a part of!
